The Misericordia University field hockey team picked up a 4-0 win over Lycoming on Senior Appreciation Day, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Senior
Shannon Murphy scored the first two goals for the Cougars and
Rebecca Scheidel and
Ashley Pitz added goals.
The Cougars limited Lycoming to just two shots.
Murphy gave MU the lead just three minutes into the game when she took a pass from
Lily Metress and tapped a shot inside the right post.
Murphy made it 2-0 just over four minutes later when she dribbled from the top of the circle and scored on her own rebound at 7:14.
The Cougars kept the ball on the Lycoming side of the field for the first 12 minutes of the second quarter and Scheidel gave MU a 3-0 lead with a back-handed goal with less than four minutes to play in the first half.
Sarah Bogina stopped a Lycoming stroke late in the second quarter to preserve the shutout.
Pitz closed out the scoring when she slid a shot past the keeper inside the right post.
Misericordia will travel to Delaware Valley, Wednesday.
