The Misericordia University men's basketball team got back into the win column with an 81-75 win over Penn St.-Abington in the consolation game of the Messiah tournament, Saturday.
Nick Prociak scored a team-high 24 points on 11-15 shooting and added eight rebounds.
Joseph Baldachino scored 15 and was 4-7 from beyond the three-point line.
Nate Kreitzer scored 12 while
Kevin Lazdowsky finished with 11 points, eight boards and a team-high four assists.
Prociak scored six points in the first six minutes and scored eight of the Cougars first 14 points.
Kreitzer connected on a three-ball half way through the first to give MU a 21-18 lead.
A Todd Robinson steal led to an RJ Weise layup and on the next play,
Nick Hornung scored after grabbing an offensive board.
Prociak scored a layup with 4:21 left in the first half to tie the game, 30-30.
The Cougars led after the first half, 34-33.
The second half started out with more of the Prociak show, with a layup for the first Cougar bucket.
After a
Derek Smith block, Prociak drained a three in transition to give Misericordia a 39-36 lead.
Lazdowsky scored five in a row on the next two possessions.
A Kreitzer three from Weise pushed the Cougars back on top by one.
After a Lions layup, Smith scored to take back the lead.
Penn State added two baskets and Dewin Concepcion responded with a three-pointer.
A Prociak layup got the Cougars within one and a Concepcion basket reclaimed the lead.
A Lions three-pointer was answered with a Baldachino three off a Prociak assist.
Baldachino added back-to-back threes late to protect the MU lead.
Prociak connected on a layup with 1:30 to go to make it a two-score game.
The Lions battled back to get within one, until another Baldachino three with 30 seconds remaining put the game away.
Misericordia shot 47% from the field and had 19 lead changes.
The Cougars will play an exhibition game at Lehigh, Sunday at 4:00.
