The Misericordia University football team dropped a hard-fought 14-0 decision at King's, Saturday afternoon.

The Monarchs scored a fumble return late in the first quarter and added an insurance score early in the fourth quarter.

Mike Gawlik led the Cougars with 120 yards rushing.

Justin Moreno had a team-high 12 tackles, including 3.5 for loss.  Zach Stolz-Illge had nine tackles and Logan Baxter, Tim Hill and Brooks Snider all had seven stops.

The Cougars took the opening kick-off and quickly moved to midfield on two big runs from Gawlik before losing the ball on an interception in King's territory.

MU got the ball back two plays later when Xander Shaner forced a fumble and Baxter recovered at the King's 28.

Misericordia was unable to take advantage of the short field and turned the ball over on downs at the King's 20.

The teams exchanged punts for most of the first quarter until the Monarchs got a strip-sack and returned the fumble 18 yards for a score with 3:49 left in the period.

King's missed a short field goal in the second quarter and Lamontae Wilson ended another threat with an interception in the end zone late in the first half.

The Monarchs missed another field goal to open the second half and the teams traded punts throughout the third quarter.

King's went 54 yards on seven plays on their first possession of the fourth quarter to take a 14-0 lead.
