The Misericordia University women's basketball team dropped its second straight decision at nationally-ranked Scranton, 64-46, Wednesday night in the Long Center.
Alyssa Bondi led the Cougars with 11 points and
Gianna Delfino had nine points and a team-high 12 rebounds.Â
Melina Santacroce added six points and 10 rebounds.
Locked in a defensive struggle in the early-going, the Cougars scored just three points over the first five minutes and trailed 6-3 with 4:37 left in the first quarter.
Elizabeth Fasti hit a three-pointer from the left win to pull MU even and Bondi converted a fast break layup to give the Cougars an 8-6 lead with 3:32 to go.
Fasti added a layup and Santacroce made two free throws to give MU a 12-8 lead after one period.
Skylar Dowling opened the second quarter with a layup to put the Cougars up, 14-8.
Delfino hit a three-pointer to make it 17-12 with 7:38 left in the second period, but Scranton closed the half on a 14-3 run to take 28-20 lead into halftime.
Morgan Haefele hit a three-pointer from the right win and assisted on
Meaghan McCaffrey's layup to get the Cougars within 36-33 with 2:09 left in the third period.
Scranton out scored the Cougars, 23-11, in the fourth quarter for the final margin.
MU, 7-2, will travel to DeSales, Saturday.
