Venis Sets School Record in Men's Lax Win

Carson Venis set a new school record with nine goals to lead the Misericordia University men's lacrosse team to a 17-9 win over Neumann, Wednesday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Venis and Jared Pelliccione combined for five goals as the Cougars raced to a 6-0 lead after one period.

Venis added a goal in the second and two in the third before putting the game out of reach with four goals in the fourth quarter.

Kyle Vandenberg had three goals and two assists and Robert Wagner added three assists as the Cougars improved to 6-1.

Garrett Heidecker was dominant winning 20-28 face-offs and Chris Straub made 11 saves in goal.

Venis gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead less than minutes into the game and Pelliccione made it 2-0 with a behind-the-back goal four minutes later.

Kyle Vandenberg whipped a shot under the crossbar from the right win with 7:29 left in the first period and Venis scored from the left wing after four crisp passes to put MU up 40.

Pelliccione scooped up a ground ball in front of the crease for a rebound goal and scored underhanded off a feed from Venis to close out the first period.

Neumann scored three straight goals to end the first half, but Venis and Vandenberg scored two goals each as the Cougars opened the third period with four straight goals.
