Alexa McHugh threw her first collegiate no-hitter as the Misericordia University softball team opened its home schedule and christened their new scoreboard with a sweep of Alvernia, Wednesday afternoon at Anderson Field.
McHugh struck out 12 and
Miranda Bohn had three hits as the Cougars took the opener, 3-1.
Bohn scattered five hits and aided her own cause with three RBI as MU won the nightcap, 4-2, in six innings.
In the opener, Bri Holder led off the bottom of the second inning with a single and
Antonia Pacillo walked.Â
Zariah Alvin and McHugh both had two-out hits to drive in runs and put the Cougars up, 2-0.
Bohn and
Kaitlin Redling had back-top-back doubles to open the third inning as the Cougars added an insurance run.
Alvernia drew two walks in the top of the fifth and had runners at second and third, but McHugh got a strikeout to end the threat. She retired six straight batters to end the game.
Alvin walked to lead off the first in the nightcap and moved to second on McHugh's infield single. Bohn doubled down the right field line to put MU up, 2-0.
Leading 2-1 in the third, McHugh singled through the left side and went to third on a double by
Nicole Elliott. Bohn's RBI-ground out made it 3-1.
Alvernia got a run back in the top of the fifth, but the Cougars answered in the bottom half when McHugh walked and later scored on an error.
Bohn induced three straight ground outs to third base in the top of the sixth before the game was called due to darkness.
