MU Softball Sweeps Del Val

The Misericordia University softball team picked up a pair of conference wins after sweeping a doubleheader with Delaware Valley, 8-0, 11-3, in five innings, Monday afternoon.

In game one, Alexa McHugh struck out eight over four innings and allowed only two baserunners. Nicole Elliot went 2-3 with a homer and three RBI.

Emma Griffin's ground out scored Briana Holder for the first run of the afternoon. Brianna Burd and Jessica Oltman scored on wild pitches to cap off a three-run second inning.

Kaitlin Redling doubled to center to score McHugh in the third and Elliot scored after a Burd sacrifice fly later in the inning.

McHugh retired three batters on swinging strikeouts in the top of the fourth and Elliot went yard with a three-run shot to left field in the bottom of the frame. Oltman's sacrifice fly to center scored Burd for the final run of the game.

In the nightcap, Burd went 3-3 with three runs scored and four RBI. Ryan Zimmerman went 3-3 with a double, two RBI and her first career homer.

Antonia Pacillo finished 2-3 with two RBI and Elliot collected three hits and two runs. Oltman went 2-3 with an RBI-double.

Burd kicked the first inning with a two-run double to left center to score Kaitlin Redling and Elliot.  Pacillo's RBI-single to right field scored Burd.

After a three-run top of the third from the Aggies, the Cougars responded with an Oltman RBI-double to reclaim the lead.

Burd opened a big fourth inning for the Cougars with a two-run single to score Redling and Elliot. Burd came around to score on a Pacillo double down the left-field line. Zimmerman stepped to the plate with a runner on and cracked a ball beyond the centerfield wall. The Cougars added five runs to the scoreboard in the inning.

In the fifth inning, Redling doubled to centerfield to score Kaitlyn Slusser and scored on an Elizabeth Kelly sacrifice.

Marissa Kelly struck out two over four innings of work and picked up the win.

Misericordia will travel to Lycoming for a doubleheader, tomorrow.
