The Misericordia University softball team increased its winning streak to eight games with a doubleheader sweep at Wilkes, Wednesday.
Alexa McHugh tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out 10, including the 200
th of her career, in an 8-0, five-inning win the opener.
Nicole Elliot scored a pair of runs and
Emily Wenner tossed a scoreless inning to get the win in a 2-1 win in eight innings in the nightcap.
Bri Holder had three hits, including a double and a homer, in the opener and Bohn had a homer and drove in three runs.
Elliott had two hits.
Holder and Elliott had two hits in the nightcap while Bohn and Holder had RBI.
Bohn struck out seven over seven innings.
In game one, Holder's two-out single gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
McHugh doubled in a run in the second and Bohn and Holder hit back-to-back homers as part of six-run inning.
In game two, Elliott singled with one out in the first and advanced to second on an error. Bohn put the Cougars up with a two-out single through the right side.
Wilkes tied the score in the third and the score stood until the eighth inning.
Elliott doubled to left to open the top of the eighth and scored the winning run on Holder's two-out single to right.
Wilkes loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth, but Wenner induced a ground out to end the threat.
MU is 19-6 overall and 9-1 in the MAC Freedom and will visit Stevens, Saturday.
