The seventh-ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team scored three straight goals to remain undefeated with a 3-1 win over Farmingdale State, Saturday afternoon at McGeehan Field.
Michaela Fasolino scored twice and
Emma Sweitzer had a goal and an assist as the Cougars improved to 4-0.
MU took control from the opening tap and fired eight shots and earned three corners in the first eight minutes.
Farmingdale countered and earned their first corner and took a 1-0 lead on the first and only shot of the game at 8:44.
The Cougars continued to dominate and finally broke through at 31:50 when Sweitzer beat a defender before a dumping a pass to Fasolino who tied the game from 10 yards out.
Fasolino put MU in front when she took a long pass and beat two defenders before slotting a shot past the Farmingdale keeper at 57:29.
MU continued to threaten with
Zoee Farr hitting the left post in the 65
th minute and
Sabrina Competiello hitting the crossbar a minute later.
Misericordia finally got an insurance goal on a Sweitzer penalty kick at 72:09.
The Cougars carried the play throughout the match and held a 34-1 advantage in shots and took 13 corners while allowing just one.
Misericordia will face Nazareth, Sunday at 3:30 at Mangelsdorf Field.
Coach Stauffer's Comments: "I thought we were really good between the two 18's today. However, we need to do a better job with finishing our chances and putting games away in the first half. It was a good overall team effort and we are looking forward to another quality match tomorrow."
