9/23/2022 9:04:00 AM

The Misericordia University women's soccer team will host Messiah in a battle of nationally-ranked teams, Saturday at 1:00 at Mangelsdorf Field.

Misericordia is 6-0 while Messiah is 6-0-1.  Both teams are ranked among the top three in the nation by the United Soccer Coaches and D3soccer.com.

MU recorded an impressive 3-1 win at Messiah a year ago thanks to a pair of goals by Michaela Fasolino and a goal and an assist from Emma Sweitzer.

Fasolino scored twice in the first half and Sweitzer gave the Cougars a 3-0 lead less than five minutes into the second half.  Messiah's lone goal came in the 87th minute.

This season, Misericordia has knocked off three NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago while outscoring its opponents, 23-2.  The Cougars are second in the country with 29.5 shots per game and 11th in the nation with 3.83 goals per game.

Sweitzer (8g, 2a) leads the team with 18 points and Fasolino (8g, 1a) is second with 17 points.  The duo is tied for eighth in the nation with eight goals.

Maegan Allspach has two goals for the Cougars and Sabrina Competiello has a team-high three assists.

In her first season at Misericordia, Madi Welliver has a 0.22 goals against average and an 83.3 save percentage.

Messiah owns a win over number five Williams Smith College and tied fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins.

Hannah Adair leads the Falcons with three goals and two assists while Brianna Seip has three goals and one assist.  Rachael Tirjan adds three goals.

Ava Wert owns an 0.82 goals against average.
