Gianna Delfino and
Melina Santacroce had double-doubles as the Misericordia University women's basketball team picked a hard-fought 58-50 win over Lycoming, Wednesday night on Dr. Michael Mould Court.
Delfino had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Santacroce added 11 points and 11 rebounds.Â
Morgan Haefele added 10 points.
Locked in a tight defensive battle in the early-going, Sklyar Dowling drilled a three-pointer from the right wing to give the Cougars an 11-8 lead with 2:17 left in the first quarter.
A steal by Santacroce led to
Elizabeth Fasti threading a pass to Delfino on the left block to put MU in front for good, 17-15, with 6:31 to go in the second period.
MU held the Warriors scoreless over the final 7:30 of the half and Santacroce's putback and Delfino's three-pointer from the top of the key gave the Cougars a 22-15 halftime lead.
Lycoming pulled within 29-26 midway through the third quarter, but the Cougars pulled away over the final 6:00.
Bondi drilled a three-pointer and Haefele's slashing layup gave MU a 37-27 lead with 2:36 to go in the third period.
Haefele made two free throws with :08 to go and added a steal and a layup at the buzzer to make it 43-33.
The Cougars maintained a double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter until the final minute.
