The nationally-ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team advanced to the MAC Freedom championship game with a 4-2 win over DeSales in double-overtime, Tuesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Four different players scored for the Cougars as they won their 10
th straight game to improve to 14-3-1.
Colleen Kinsella had a goal and an assist and
Maegan Allspach,
Julia Beck and
Emma Sweitzer added goals. Kinsella scored the game-winner in the first OT and added an assist in the second extra session.
Kinsella gave the Cougars a 3-2 lead early in the first overtime. Allspach carried into the box off a corner and played a ball that was deflected off the Bulldogs' keeper near the right post and Kinsella buried a shot into an empty net at 92:59.
In the second OT, Kinsella put a ball back into the box and found Sweitzer on the left flank where she slotted a shot across the box into the right side netting at 107:48.
Allspach gave the Cougars an early lead with a perfectly placed shot from almost 30 yards out. She dribbled across the middle of the field, turned and a blasted a shot just under the bar at 1:49.
The Cougars nearly added a second goal at the eight-minute mark when Sweitzer carried into the box and rolled a pass to
Colleen Kinsella, whose one-timer from 15 yards was just wide of the right post.
The Bulldogs created a turnover deep in the MU end and converted the tying goal at 15:35 and the score stood until midway through the second half.
MU had two good chances off their first corner of the game midway through the first half.Â
Julia Beck's shot from point-blank range was saved and
Olivia Maniskas' rebound was also denied.
Sweitzer threatened again in the 34
th minute, but her shot from in front was denied and the Cougars couldn't get a touch on the rebound.
The Cougars had an early chance in the second half, but Kinsella's one-timer inside the box was saved. The DeSales keeper made her biggest stop of the match on an almost own-goal on a deflection in the box 10 minutes into the second half.
Beck had a chance for MU in the 62
nd minute off a re-start.Â
Brenna Field played the ball to Beck, who touched the ball past a defender, but her shot form distance sailed over the left post.
Madison Brdaric rolled a shot from the top of the box just wide of the right post in 69
th minute.
Beck gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead off a re-start from in the 71
st minute when she placed a perfect shot into the far right corner from 25 yards out.
DeSales answered when Ribeiro carried 50 yards before slotting a shot off the left post to pull even at 74:03.Â
Olivia Maniskas nearly put the Cougars in front off a throw in the 83
rd minute. Beck's throw-in found Sweitzer, who beat a couple of defenders and a played a ball to Maniskas whose rip from 25 yards out was just high.
Haleigh Wintersteen ripped a shot from 35 yards that was just high of the right post in the opening minute of overtime.
Misericordia will host Stevens in the MAC Freedom championship match, Saturday at 5:00.
