The nationally-ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team opened the 2023 NCAA Championships with an impressive 3-0 win over #25 Wesleyan, Saturday night in Rochester, NY.

Emma Sweitzer and
Julia Beck all scored as the #24 Cougars advance to face #6 Rochester, Sunday at 5:00. The Yellowjackets edged Penn State-Behrend, 2-1, in the opening round.
Allspach gave MU an early lead with an assist from
Carly Cavanaugh at 3:31. On the game's first corner, the ball was cleared by the Wesleyan defense, but Cavanaugh played it over the top to Allspach in the box and she beat a diving Wesleyan keeper inside the right post.
Haleigh Wintersteen served a ball to a wide-open Sweitzer on the left side of the box where she took a touch and placed a shot into the same side of the goal for a 2-0 lead at 11:52.
Beck made it 3-0 when she squeezed a free kick from 35 yards out just inside the left post at 28:42.
The MU defense allowed just one shot on goal as the Cougars won their 12
th straight game to improve to 16-3-1.
The Cardinals best chance of the first half came on a free kick from just outside the box, but the shot was side of the right post at 7:40.
Wesleyan's best opportunity of the second half hit off the bottom of the crossbar in the 64
th minute.
Lauren Mondor made the save on Wesleyan's only shot on goal in the 85
th minute to preserve the shutout.
