Despite a combined 48 points from
Joseph Baldachino and
Kevin Lazdowsky, the Misericordia men's basketball team lost at SUNY-New Paltz, 89-77, Friday.
Baldachino and Lazdowsky had 24 points and seven rebounds each while
Derek Smith added 13 points.
Smith hit a three-pointer to tie the game, 51-51, five minutes into the second half, but the Hawks scored eight straight points to go in front for good.
In a back-and-forth first half,
Nick Hornung gave the Cougars a 17-16 lead with a layup with 12:08 to play. New Paltz scored six straight points to take a 22-17 lead one minute later.
R.J. Weise hit a three-pointer and Lazdowsky made a jumper in the lane to tie the score, 31-31, with 4:22 to go.
The Hawks eventually took a 43-39 halftime lead.
Misericordia is off until its western trip to face Willamette and Whitman.
