The Misericordia University men's volleyball team split a tri-match, Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Center.
The Cougars swept Immaculata before falling to nationally-ranked SUNY New Paltz in five sets.
Logan Romeika had nine kills and four aces in the opener and
Zane Martin and
Jackson Fehnel added six kills each.
Kyle Ganoe had 19 assists and two aces and
Gannon DeFrain added 12 assists and four aces.
New Paltz rallied to take the first set, 26-24, but MU answered with a 25-23 win in the second set.
New Paltz won 25-23 in the third and the Cougars won 25-20 to force a fifth set which New Paltz won, 15-12.
Anthony DePalma led MU with 21 kills and two aces and
James Walsh added 10 kills.
Benjamin Clendening had five blocks and
Austin Hand and
Joe Kozak had three each.
Ganoe had 28 assists and DeFrain had 18.
DePalma had four straight kills for the Cougars to take a 24-23 lead in the opener, but the Hawks closed with three straight points.
DePalma broke a 23-23 tie with a kill and the Cougars closed the second set on a Hawks' error.
The Cougars used a 9-1 run to take a 13-7 lead in the fourth set and were never seriously threatened.
New Paltz closed the finale on a 6-3 run to secure the win.
