Nate Kreitzer and
Kevin Lazdowsky combined for 44 points and
Derek Smith had a double-double as the Misericordia University men's basketball team clinched a postseason berth with a 91-86 win over FDU-Florham, Saturday afternoon on Doc Mould Court.
Kreitzer scored 24 points, grabbed six rebounds and had five assists while Lazdowsky had 20 points and nine rebounds while shooting a perfect 10-10 from the foul line.
Smith had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Dewin Concepcion hit a three-pointer from the right wing to put MU in front, 78-75, with 3:35 to play. Smith followed with a three-pointer from the same spot to make it 81-77 with 3:01 to go.
Kreitzer and Lazdowsky combined for eight free throws over the final 2:36 and Kreitzer made a layup at the buzzer.
MU shot 47.1% from the floor in the first half to take 45-38 halftime lead.
Nick Hornung scored seven points in the first five minutes of the second half as the Cougars extended the lead to 53-43 with 15:52 remaining.
The Devils answered with a 16-2 run over the next five minutes to take a 59-55 lead.
The Cougars battled back and led 83-82 with :10 seconds remaining.Â
Matt Prociak came up with a steal to prevent the Devils potential game-winning shot and keep the Cougars season alive.
MU will travel to Stevens, Monday at 6:00.
