Despite a career-high 28 points from
Meaghan McCaffrey, the Misericordia University women's basketball team fell at Stevens, 66-55, Wednesday night in the MAC Freedom semifinals.
Gianna Delfino had a double-double with 11 points and 17 rebounds while
Alyssa Bondi added 10 points.
Bondi's jumper gave the Cougars a 6-4 lead midway through the opening period, but the Ducks answered with seven straight points in two minutes.
McCaffrey added three free throws late in the quarter and the Cougars trailed 13-9 after one period.
The Cougars shot just 1-18 from three-point range in the first half, but managed to stay within striking distance at halftime, down 31-24.
Stevens stretched its lead to 38-26 early in the second half, but the Cougars responded with an 11-4 run. Delfino and McCaffrey had two layups each in the spurt and Delfino hit a three-pointer to get MU within 42-37 with 2:27 left in the third quarter.
The Ducks widened their lead to 54-40 early in the fourth quarter and the Cougars made one last charge.
Bondi hit a three-pointer and McCaffrey scored the next eight points for MU to cut the margin to 56-51 with 4:03 to play.
Stevens regained 10-point lead, 61-51, with 1:58 to go and made five free throws over the final 1:23.
