The Misericordia University softball team swept a doubleheader, 4-0, 5-1 at York, Thursday.
Alexa McHugh struck out nine in a five-hit shutout in the opener and
Kaitlin Redling had two hits and drove in a run.
McHugh added two hits and
Gianna Russo and
Emma Griffin both drove in runs.
The Cougars scored all five of their runs in the top of the first inning in the nightcap to back the complete-game effort of
Marisa Kelly.
Gianna Foreman, Russo and
Victoria Fama all had RBI in game two.
In game one, the Cougars twice in the fourth and fifth innings.Â
Nicole Elliott singled through the left side to open the fourth and went to third on Redling's infield single. Foreman walked to load the bases and Russo drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Griffin reached on an error to make it 2-0.
Bridget Doherty singled to lead off the fifth and moved to second on McHugh's single. Elliott was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Redling singled in a run. Griffin made it 2-0 with a two-single through the left side.
In game two, McHugh singled with one out in the top of the first and moved up on Elliott's single down the right field line. Redling, Foreman and Russo drew consecutive walks to force in two runs.Â
Fama singled to left to drive in a run and two more runners came home on an error on the play.
Kelly struck out three and scattered seven hits while holding the Spartans scoreless for 6.2 innings.
