The Misericordia University softball team split a doubleheader at Alvernia, Wednesday.
After dropping the opener, 1-0, the Cougars took the nightcap, 9-4.
Alexa McHugh struck out 12 in the opener, but absorbed the loss despite allowing just three hits.
The Cougars stranded a runner on third in the top of the seventh and Alvernia combined two hits and two walks to score the winning run in the bottom of the frame.
Brianna Burd had two hits for the Cougars.
In the nightcap,
Nicole Elliott,
Kaitlin Redling and
Gianna Russo all had two hits and two RBI.Â
Bridget Doherty had three hits and McHugh drove in two runs and
Emily Wenner scattered five hits over five innings to earn the win.
Elliott gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead with an RBI-double in the top of the first and McHugh added a two-run double in the second to make it 4-0.
Russo hit a solo homer in the third and gave the Cougars a 6-2 lead with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
Elliott singled in a run in the sixth and Redling followed with a two-run double to make it 9-2.
