The Misericordia University baseball team scored 16 runs in the sixth and seventh innings to beat Delaware Valley, 23-5, in the opening game of their MAC Freedom series, Friday in Doylestown.
Derrick Vosburg had two hits and four RBI and
Connor Maryniak drove in three runs on a double and a homer.
Garrett McIlhenney scored five runs and drove in two and
Nick Giardino and
Brock Bollinger both had two RBI.
The Cougars had 13 hits, 13 walks and nine HBP.
Steve Rinda struck out five in three innings of relief to earn the win.Â
Max Oliver struck out seven in four innings and
Adam Juchnik struck two in one scoreless inning in a game that was called after eight innings.
McIlhenney walked to open the game and
Joe Comins walked one out later and bother runners scored on Vosburg's two-out single through the right side to give MU a 2-0 lead after one inning.
Comins drew a walk to open the third and
Brady Madden singled. Vosburg singled in a run and Madden and Vosburg completed a double-steal to make it 4-0. Maryniak doubled in a run and Giardino added a sacrifice fly for a 6-0 lead.
Madden's sac fly gave the Cougars a 7-0 lead in the fourth.
The Aggies pulled within 7-4 through five innings, but the Cougars answered with eight runs in the six and eight more in the seventh.
MU will host Del Val for a doubleheader, Saturday at noon at Tambur Field.
