The Misericordia University men's volleyball team swept a tri-match with King's and Widener to clinch a berth in the MAC Championships, Saturday on Dr. Michael Mould Court.
The Cougars swept King's, 3-0, and rallied from a 1-0 deficit to beat Widener, 3-1. King's beat Widener, 3-0.
Against King's,
Anthony DePalma had a team-high 18 kills while
Zane Martin and
Jackson Fehnel had 11 each.
Gannon DeFrain had 37 assists and three blocks while
Austin Cervasio added three blocks.
In the opening set against King's, the Cougars trailed 17-12 but used a 5-1 run to take their first lead, 23-22.
Tied 23-23, a DePalma kill and a block from Cervasio and
James Walsh gave MU a 25-23 win.
Tied 19-19 in the second set,
Zane Martin and Fehnel had kills as part of a 4-2 run to give MU a 21-19 lead.
Martin had a kill and teamed with DeFrain on a block to close a 25-22 win.
Down 6-3 in the third set, Martin had two kills as the Cougars scored five straight to take an 8-6 lead.
DePalma had three kills in a 5-2 spurt to stretch the lead to 16-11.
Martin had a kill and an ace and DePalma added a kill to put MU up 23-17.
Against Widener,
Zane Martin led MU with 15 kills and Cervasio and DePalma had 14 apiece.
DeFrain had 51 assists and two aces.
After dropping the opener to Widener, 29-27, the Cougars won three straight, 25-22, 25-17 25-23.
The Cougars will travel to Stevenson in the first round of the MAC Championships, April 11.
