The Misericordia University softball team swept a doubleheader at FDU-Florham, Sunday.
Alexa McHugh struck out nine and
Nicole Elliott hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh in a 5-1 win in the opener.
Kaitlin Redling was 4-4 with three RBI and
Bridget Doherty had three hits.
Mackenzie Fizer hit two homers and Katilin Redling and
Emily Susanj both homered in a 9-4 win in the nightcap.
Gianna Russo added two hits and
Emily Wenner scattered seven hits in a complete-game win.
Doherty opened the game with a single up the middle and Russo reached on an error before Redling's opposite-field double gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
Elizabeth Kelly reached on an infield single to start the third and eventually scored on Redling's two-out double to left center.
After the Devils scored their lone run in the sixth, Doherty singled and scored on Elliott's two-out, two-run homer.
Fizer gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead with a solo homer to lead off the second inning, but FDU-Florham answered with three runs in the bottom half.
MU went back in front on Fizer's three-run homer in the third, but the Devils tied it, 4-4, in the fourth.
Elliott doubled to lead off the fifth and Redling followed with a homer to put the Cougars ahead for good, 6-4.
Doherty led off the sixth with a single, stole second and scored on Russo's single and Elliott's double made it 8-4.
Susanj homered with two outs in the seventh for the final margin.
