The Misericordia University softball team took a doubleheader from Scranton, 4-2, 2-0, Monday afternoon at Anderson Field.
Marisa Kelly scattered eight hits to earn the complete game win in the opener and Nicole Elliot had a two-run triple.
Bridget Doherty added two hits for the Cougars.
Alexa McHugh tossed a six-hit shutout in the nightcap.
Doherty had two more hits and
Gianna Russo and
Kaitlin Redling both drove in runs.
Scranton scored an unearned run in the top of first to take a 1-0 lead the opener.
The Cougars scored all four runs in the bottom of the third. With one out, Doherty reached on an infield single and Russo walked before Elliott's opposite field triple gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead. Redling walked and
Gianna Foreman was hit by a pitch to load the bases.Â
Casey Funesti walked to force in a run and
Emma Griffin made it 4-1 with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Scranton got a run back on a two-out hit in the sixth, but Kelly retired the side in order in the seventh.
MU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first in game two. Russo doubled to left and moved up on a wild pitch. After Elliott drew a walk, Redling singled up the middle to plate the game's first run.
The Cougars added an insurance run in the fifth.Â
Zariah Alvin reached on an error and moved to second on
Brianna Burd's line drive single to left. Â Doherty beat out a bunt to load the bases and Russo followed with a hard-hit sac fly to right.
