The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team clinched the fourth seed in the MAC Freedom championships with a 17-2 win over Lycoming, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Robert Wagner had two goals and five assists and
Ryan Vandenberg had four goals and an assist.Â
Jared Pelliccione scored four goals and
Kyle Vandenberg had three goals and an assist and
Connor Bevan had two goals, two assists, four groundballs and three caused turnovers.
Sean Wallace made seven saves in goal and the Warriors scoreless for the first 50 minutes.
The Cougars dominated possession throughout the night as
Nick Mehnert was 8-12 on face-offs.
Pelliccione scored less than two minutes into the game with the first of 14 unanswered goals.
Kyle Vandenberg juked a defender and tucked a low shot inside the left post with 9:03 left in the first period and Wagner fired a shot from 15 yards out to make it 3-0 with 7:12Â to go.Â
Bevan scored late in the first period and the Cougars added five goals in the second quarter to take a 9-0 halftime lead.
The Cougars scored four times in the third period and
Ryan Vandenberg scored in the opening minute of the fourth period to make it 14-0.
MU improved to 9-7 overall and 5-2 in the MAC Freedom. The Cougars will travel to Stevens for their regular season finale, Saturday, and will host the MAC Freedom 4/5 play-in game, Monday.
