Max Oliver and
Tyler Leonard combined for eight scoreless innings as the Misericordia University baseball team wrapped up the Super Regional Title with a 6-2 win at Marietta, Saturday.
Oliver tossed three no-hit innings and Leonard held the Pioneers scoreless until their final at-bat as the Cougars clinched the second World Series berth in school history.
MU will open the NCAA D-III World Series in Cedar Rapids, IA, June 2.
Regional MVP
Joe Comins had three hits, including a double and a solo homer, and
Garrett McIlhenney had three hits to extend his on-base streak to 52 games.
Connor Maryniak had two hits, including a solo homer, as the Cougars improved to 39-13 to tie the 2013 squad most for most wins in school history.
McIlhenney tripled to left center to open the bottom of the first and came home with the game's first run on
Derrick Vosburg's single up the middle.
The Cougars added a pair of runs in the second.Â
Brendan Gray singled to right and went to third on
Jack Regenye's single up the middle. McIlhenney singled to center to make it 2-0. After McIlhenney was caught stealing,
Brock Bollinger walked and the Cougars pulled off a double steal to take a 3-0 lead.
Comins and Maryniak blasted back-to-back homers in the fifth to extend MU's lead to 5-0.
Regenye was hit by a pitch to start the sixth and moved up on a sacrifice bunt. Vosburg drew a two-out walk and
Brady Madden singled to center to give MU a 6-0 lead.
The Pioneers managed four of their nine hits in the top of the ninth, but Leonard induced a fly out to center to end the game.
