The nationally-ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss at Cortland Wednesday night.
Emma Sweitzer converted a penalty kick late in the second half to for her 53
rd career goal to become MU's all-time leader.
The Cougars dominated the stat sheet with a 22-11 edge in shots, including 10-5 on goal. The Cougars also had a 9-4 advantage in corners in the battle of regionally-ranked teams.
Carly Stoner nearly gave the Cougars the lead when her corner kick caromed off the crossbar in the 50
th minute.
The Red Dragons broke a scoreless tie with a breakaway goal inside the right post in the 66
th minute.
Cortland collected a loose ball 25 yards out and finished inside the right post for a 2-0 lead in the 76
th minute.
Sweitzer cut the lead in half with a PK at 84:00.
