The #17 Misericordia University women's soccer team battled to a 2-2 draw with Scranton, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Maegan Allspach scored twice in the first 11 minutes for the Cougars and
Julia Beck had an assist.
Allspach gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead on the first shot of the game when she carried down the right side, cut back to the top right corner of the box and placed a left-footed shot into the upper left corner at 1:48.
Scranton pulled even on their first shot of the game six minutes later.
The Cougars went back in front three minutes later when Beck played a 40-yard pass to Allspach who received the ball behind the Royals defense and dribbled 25 yards before beating the keeper 1 v 1 into the upper right corner for a 2-1 lead at 10:32.
Emma Sweitzer nearly added an insurance late in the first half, but her shot from the left corner of the box floated over the crossbar.
Sweitzer was dangerous again in the 53
rd minute when she dribbled through three defenders and took a shot from the top of the box that rolled just wide of the left post.
Sweitzer had another near-miss in the 66
th minute when her diving header was just wide of the right post.
After the Royals tied the score in the 84
th minute on their only shot of the second half, Beck nearly put MU back in front, her shot off a re-start from 25 yards out was just high.
Following a back-and-forth first half, the Cougars carried much of the play in the second half and held a 15-6 edge in shots for the game.
