The Misericordia University women's volleyball team opened MAC Freedom play with a 3-0 win at FDU-Florham, Wednesday.
Meghan Peters led the Cougars with 10 kills and eight digs and
Fiona Pyfer and
Jennifer Nicometo had five kills each.
Jenna Schuda had 30 assists and
Adele Decker and
Jessica Cleveland added three aces each.
The Cougars won 25-11, 25-23, 25-20 to improve to 9-5 overall and 1-0 in the MAC Freedom.
MU used an 11-4 run to take control of the first set.
Pyfer had two kills and Schuda and Cleveland both had aces as the Cougars took a 21-10 lead.
Cassandra Genduso had three kills and Decker added ace to close out the set.
Peters had three kills as the Cougars opened the second set with a 6-0 run and
Rachel LoFaso had three kills as the Cougars stretched the lead to 15-7.
Schuda and
Brooke Voulo combined for a block to make it 22-14.  Nicometo had two kills for MU's final two points as the Cougars held off an FDU rally to win, 25-23.
Nicometo's kill broke a 3-3 tie in the finale and the Cougars never trailed again.
