Nick Hornung tallied 23 points and nine rebounds as the Misericordia University men's basketball team improved to 5-1 in the MAC Freedom with a convincing 91-73 win over King's, Saturday on Doc Mould Court
Derek Smith scored 20 points and went 4-6 from three-point range as well as 4-4 from the foul line.
Kevin Lazdowsky scored 13 points and
Nate Kreitzer had nine points and five assists.
The Cougars took the lead for good in the opening minute on a three-pointer by Smith from the right corner which he converted into a four-point play.
Hornung and Kreitzer made jumpers in the lane and Smith connected from long range to cap a 7-0 run and give MU a 19-9 lead with 13:44 to play in the first half.
After a King's bucket,
Kevin Lazdowsky answered with a layup and the Cougars began to pull away.
The Cougars shot 62.6% from the floor and 100% from the foul line in the first half while building a 59-30 lead at halftime.
Monarchs turnovers, including three steals by
Arvel Chandler, resulted in 13-points for the Cougars.
Nick Prociak added seven points and seven rebounds and Chandler and R.J. Weise both had five assists.
Prociak and Chandler to give the Cougars a 38-point lead midway through the second half.
