The Misericordia University women's volleyball team clinched a MAC Freedom Tournament berth with a 3-0 sweep at Arcadia, Tuesday night.
Misericordia won 25-18, 25-15, 25-22 to improve to 22-5 overall and 4-2 in the MAC Freedom.
Jennifer Nicometo led the Cougars with 12 kills and
Cassandra Genduso had 11 kills and three aces.Â
Meghan Peters had 10 kills and two aces while
Jessica Cleveland had seven digs and four aces.
Jenna Schuda had 33 assists and
Keira McCaffrey added three blocks.
Misericordia led wire-to-wire in the opener and scored seven straight points to break open a close set.
Following an Arcadia service error, Peters had an ace and Nicometo and Genduso had two kills each to give the Cougars an 18-9 lead.
Arcadia rallied to get within 21-17, but Schuda had a kill and ace to close the set on 4-1 run.
MU never trailed in the second set and closed out a 25-15 win on a 10-1 spurt.
Peters had two kills and an ace as Misericordia scored five straight points and Cleveland had three consecutive aces to key a 5-0 run to end the set.
Arcadia took its first lead of the night in the finale and built a 9-4 advantage.
Misericordia responded with straight points to go in front, 11-9, and never trailed again.
Nicometo's kill followed by a block by Peters/McCaffrey and a
Sarah Journey ace gave the Cougars a 20-15 lead.
Two Arcadia errors and a kill by Peters put the Cougars at match-point, 24-19. Arcadia scored three straight points to stay alive before Genduso sealed the match with a kill.
