MU Field Hockey Falls to #8 York

The Misericordia University field hockey team fell to #8 York, 3-0, in their matinee matchup, Saturday at Mangelsdorf Field.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Spartans netted a goal in each of the remaining frames.

York was awarded a pair of penalty corners early on in the first quarter, but the MU defense stood tall to keep the Spartans off the board. The Cougars received some help from goalkeeper Sarah Bogina, who turned aside the first shot she faced at 8:26.

After another York corner at 12:12, Misericordia got in the way of two shot attempts and eventually regained control of the ball. After the first 15 minutes of play, the teams were still locked at 0-0.

At 20:34, Bogina made an excellent save on a shot from 10 yards out that was earmarked for the top left corner of the goal.

York finally broke through at 22:02 to take a 1-0 lead and the score held through the remainder of the first half.

The Spartans found the back of the net again in the third quarter at 34:25.

York threatened again with a corner in the dying seconds of the third frame, but a last-second block by the MU defense kept the game within the Cougars' reach.

Bogina continued to battle in goal for Misericordia in the fourth quarter, making a pair of saves off of corner attempts in the 53rd minute.

York added an insurance marker at 54:25 to take a 3-0 lead.

Bogina finished the day with four saves.

The Cougars hit the road to take on the University of Scranton, Tuesday at 7:00.
