The #5 Misericordia University women's soccer team opened its MAC Freedom schedule with a 5-1 win at Lebanon Valley, Saturday.
After falling behind 1-0, the Cougars scored five unanswered goals.
Julia Beck had two goals and
Emma Sweitzer,
Alyssa Steenback and
Haleigh Wintersteen all added goals.
After Lebanon Valley took a 1-0 lead at 10:55, Beck tied it on a penalty kick just three minutes later.
Sabrina Competiello won a 50-50 ball in the box and played a ball back to Steenback who buried a shot into an empty net to put MU in front, 2-1, at 29:40.
With the Cougars holding LVC without a shot on goal over the final 65:00, Beck added an insurance goal just over a minute into the second half.Â
Brenna Field served a ball over the top and Beck headed it home from six yards out to make it 3-1.
Wintersteen juked a defender in the box and slotted a shot inside the right post to give the Cougars a 4-1 lead at 71:01.
Misericordia capped the scoring in the 76
th minute when
Caelan Gallagher threaded a pass through two defenders to send Sweitzer on a breakaway where she beat the keeper 1-v-1 for a 5-1 lead.
