The Misericordia University volleyball team advanced to the MAC Freedom championship match for the first time in school history with a 3-0 win at DeSales in the semifinals, Wednesday.
The Cougars won 25-20, 25-21, 25-19 to improve to 25-8 and will travel to Stevens for the MAC Freedom finals, Saturday at 1:00.
Jennifer Nicometo led MU with nine kills and
Meghan Peters added eight kills and four aces.Â
Cassandra Genduso had eight kills and four blocks and
Jessica Cleveland had 14 digs and three aces.Â
Sarah Journey had nine digs and three aces.
Jenna Schuda had 24 assists and Genduso and
Keira McCaffrey both had four blocks.
The Cougars scored six straight points to take a 10-4 lead in the opener.Â
Peters had two kills and Journey had two aces as part of the run.
DeSales rallied to take an 18-16 lead.
Peters had a kill and McCaffrey had an ace to give the Cougars a 19-18 lead.
Tied 19-19, Genduso's kill and four DeSales errors put MU up, 24-19.
Madison Tullo closed the 25-20 win with a kill.
The teams went back-and-forth throughout the second set and were eventually tied, 21-21.
Peters and Nicometo had kills to put MU back in front and Peters closed it with back-to-back aces.
MU trailed 16-13 in the third set before scoring five straight points to go in front for good, 18-16. The Cougars closed the set on a 5-1 run to clinch the sweep.
