Emma Sweitzer put on a skills clinic to lead the sixth-ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team to an impressive 5-1 win over Arcadia in the MAC Freedom semifinals, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Sweitzer scored a natural hat trick to lead the Cougars to their eighth straight trip to the MAC Freedom championship match where they will host Stevens, Saturday at 4:00.
After several scoring chances, the Cougars picked up the pressure and finally broke through midway through the first half.
Sweitzer took a throw-in near midfield and outran the defense for 55 yards deep into the box before ripping a shot across the box into the upper left corner at 23:02.
After a few more near misses, Sweitzer single-handedly added a second goal late in the first half. She collected a loose ball deep in the offensive third when she cutback at top right corner of the box, dribbled to the middle and blasted a shot through three defenders into the upper left corner for a 2-0 lead at 41:33.
The Cougars put the game away with three goals in a five-minute span early in the second half.
Sweitzer struck again when she carried down the left side deep into the box and slotted a tough-angle shot across the goal inside the right post to give MU a 3-0 lead at 57:41.
Haleigh Wintersteen served a ball from the left edge of the box and Brdaric's volley into the left side netting stretched MU's lead to 4-0 at 60:17.
Misericordia capped its scoring just over two minutes later when Brdaric beat a defender on the right flank and rolled a ball to Sweitzer in the box where she touched past a defender and ripped a shot inside the left post to make it 5-0 at 62:36.
Arcadia recorded its first shot on goal in the 70
th minute and got on the board in the 84
