The Misericordia University men's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at New Paltz, Wednesday night.
Jared Piontkowski led the Cougars with 13 kills and two blocks while
Benjamin Clendening had three blocks.
Gannon DeFrain added 26 assists.
New Paltz scored four straight points to break a 10-10 tie in the opener on the way to a 25-18 win.
The second set was evenly played until the Hawks scored for straight points to take a 18-11 lead.
Down 21-16 in the finale, the Cougars mounted a rally.
DePalma,
Kyle Ganoe and Piontkowski had back-to-back kills to get within 21-19.
Following a New Paltz point, Piontkowski's kill and a Hawk's error pulled the Cougars within a point, 22-21.
But, New Paltz scored three of the final four points to clinch the win.
MU will host Stevens and Marymount in a tri-match featuring three nationally-ranked teams, Saturday.
