The Montclair State women's lacrosse team ended the game on a 6-0 run to defeat Misericordia University, 18-9, Wednesday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Molly Celesky led the Cougars with four goals while
Rachel Shook and
Genevieve Montanye both had four assists.Â
Michelle Torzilli scored twice and had 10 draw controls.
Celesky scored twice in less than a minute midway through the first quarter to give the Cougars their only lead, 2-1, with 8:23 to play in the opening period.
Montclair scored four straight goals until Torzilli bounced a shot in with 9:16 left in the second quarter to get within 5-3.
Shook found
Alicia Pileggi in stride across the middle and she placed a shot in the right corner late in the second quarter and the Cougars went into halftime down 7-4.
Torzilli scored with :02 left on the shot clock and Celesky scored 13 seconds later as MU opened the third quarter with two goals to pull within 7-6 with 13:11 to play.
The Red Hawks scored five of the next goals to take a 12-7 lead after three periods.
Skylar Dowling and
Delaney Campanella scored early in the fourth, but Montclair closed the game on a 6-0 run.
