13-Run Inning Lifts MU Softball

The Misericordia University softball team split a pair of games at the Fastpitch Dreams Tournament, Tuesday in Myrtle Beach.

The Cougars scored 13 runs in the top of the fifth to down Wilson, 13-5, in five innings but dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Marymount in the nightcap.

Mackenzie Fizer and Nikki Elliott had three hits and three RBI and Casey Funesti added three hits against Wilson.  Elizabeth Kelly had two hits and two RBI and Kaitlin Redling added two hits.

Marymount rallied for three runs over the final two innings to take the win in game two.  Bridget Doherty had two MU's four hits and Elliott and Emily Susanj both drove in runs.

Down 5-0 through four innings against Wilson, the Cougars sent 18 batters to the plate in the top of the fifth.

Elliott and Gianna Foreman both had two-run singles early in the inning Gianna Russo's second walk of the frame forced in the tying run.  Kelly singled up the middle to give MU a 7-5 lead and Fizer added some insurance with a three-run double.

Against Marymount, Doherty opened the game with a bunt single and later scored on an error.

The Cougars added an insurance run in the fifth when Doherty singled with one out and eventually scored on Elliott's sac fly.

Marymount scored two unearned runs in the sixth and scored the game-winning run without putting the ball in the outfield in the bottom of the seventh.

Marisa Kelly allowed just three hits over 5.2 innings.
