The Misericordia University softball team ended its spring trip with a pair of wins, Friday in Myrtle Beach, SC.
The Cougars defeated Cedar Crest, 6-2, and Penn State Abington, 9-1.
Bridget Doherty was 4-4 in the opener and
Nikki Elliott had three hits.
Sophia DeFebo struck out seven and allowed just five hits to get the win.
Katilin Redling had two hits in the nightcap, including a two-run homer, and
Emma Griffin had two hits and drove in three runs.
Jennifer Milisits worked five scoreless innings to get the win.
Down 2-0 after two innings in the opener, the Cougars took the lead with three runs in the top of the third. Elliott drove in a run with a single to left center and Redling gave the Cougars the lead with a two-run double to left.
MU added some insurance in the fifth when Elliott led off with a single through the left side and eventually scored on a wild pitch.Â
Kaitlyn Slusser added an RBI-double to make it 5-2.
Doherty singled with one out in the sixth, stole second and later scored on a wild pitch for the final margin.
The Cougars broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the top of the fourth and took control of the game with four more runs in the fifth.
Kate Mager had a two-run double in the fourth and Elliott had an RBI-triple in the fifth followed by Redling's two-run homer.
Griffin had an RBI-single in the fifth and closed out the scoring with a two-run single in the seventh.
The Cougars extended their win streak to four straight while improving to 9-3.
