The Misericordia University softball team split a doubleheader at Scranton, Wednesday. The Cougars dropped the opener, 10-5, but won the nightcap, 12-4, in five innings.
Kate Mager had two hits in the opener.
MU took an early 5-0 lead, but Scranton scored 10 runs in the bottom of fourth.
In the nightcap, the Cougars pounded out 15 hits and scored 12 runs over the final three innings.
Emma Griffin had three hits and two RBI and
Haley McMenimen and
Gianna Foreman had two hits and drove in four runs.
Kiersten Tinio had two hits and scored three runs.
Sophia DeFebo picked up the win with 1.2 innings of relief.
In the opener,
Mackenzie Fizer and
Gianna Russo singled to open the game and
Nikki Elliott walked to load the bases. Two outs later,
Sierra Miller reached on an error to force in a run and two more came home when Mager reached on a fielder's choice.
Elliott doubled to lead off the third and scored on
Casey Funesti's single to left. Mager singled down the right field line and Funesti came around on an error to make it 5-0.
Scranton went in front with 10 runs in the bottom of the third.
In the nightcap, Foreman and McMenimen hit back-to-back doubles to give the Cougars a 3-1 lead in the top of the third.
Tinio had an RBI-triple in the fourth and McMenimen had a bases-loaded double as the Cougars scored five runs to take an 8-1 lead.
After Scranton got three runs back in the bottom of the third, Foreman singled in two runs and Griffin followed with a two-run double as part of a four-run fifth inning to provide the winning margin.
