The Misericordia University softball team split a doubleheader at Marywood, Tuesday. The Cougars dropped the opener, 12-0, in five innings, but rebounded to win the nightcap, 9-2.
Gianna Russo had the lone hit for the Cougars in the opener with a two-out single in the top of the first. Marywood took control of the game with nine runs in the second inning.
Kiersten Tinio paced the Cougars with three hits, including two doubles, and four RBI in the nightcap. Misericordia scored five runs in the top of the first and never trailed.
Makenzie Fizer,
Nikki Elliott,
Lilo Garrett and
Emily Susanj all had doubles for the Cougars.
Erin McGee struck out four and scattered seven hits to earn the win.
Bridget Doherty singled with one out in the top of the first and
Nikki Elliott and
Kaitlin Redling reached via error to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
Kaitlyn Slusser walked to load the bases and Tinio doubled to left center to clear them and make it 4-0.
Tinio singled in a run in the third and scored on
Lilo Garrett's double to give the Cougars a 7-0 lead.
Makenzie Fizer doubled to lead off the sixth and scored on
Marisa Kelly's fielder's choice to make it 8-0.
Marywood scored twice in the sixth and the Cougars got one back on doubles by Tinio and
Emily Susanj in the top of the seventh.
