The Misericordia University softball team clinched the second seed in the MAC Freedom Tournament with a doubleheader sweep of FDU-Florham, Wednesday afternoon at Anderson Field.
Marisa Kelly threw her second straight two-hit shutout in a 6-0 win in the opener while
Nikki Elliott,
Gianna Foreman and
Emma Griffin all homered in an 11-4 win in the nightcap.
Gianna Russo had three hits and
Casey Funesti had two hits and two RBI in game one.Â
Nikki Elliott and Foreman had two hits each.
Foreman and Funesti singled in runs to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third in game one.
Funesti doubled in a run in the fifth and the Cougars took advantage of an outfield error to stretch their lead to 5-0 in the sixth.
Elliott hit a solo homer in the sixth for the final margin.
Elliott hit a three-run homer in game two
Kiersten Tinio had three hits and three RBI. Russo had three hits and Griffin had two hits and two RBI.
Tinio doubled in a run in the bottom of the second and Elliott hit a three-run homer in the third. Foreman followed with a solo homer for a 6-0 lead.
FDU-Florham got three runs back in the top of the fourth and the Cougars answered with two in the bottom.
Griffin hit a two-run homer in the fifth and Tinio drove in two insurance runs in the sixth.
