The Misericordia University baseball used two stellar pitching performances to end its MAC Freedom schedule with a sweep of Stevens, 7-1, 2-1, Saturday at Tambur Field.
Steve Rinda struck out six in 6.2 innings in the opener and
Connor Maryniak and
Matt Lanzendorfer combined for nine strikeouts in the nightcap.
Maryniak had two hits in the opener and
Garrett McIlhenney scored three runs.
McIlhenney had two hits and scored twice in the nightcap.
Stevens scored their only run of the game in the top of the first in the opener, but the Cougars rallied for three runs in their half of the frame.
McIlhenney drew a lead-off walk and moved up on an error and fly out before coming home on Maryniak's sac fly.Â
Jack Regenye reached on an error and came around on
Joe Comins' RBI-double and
Jason Sanfilippo singled to center to make it 3-1.
McIlhenney reached on an infield single in the second and scored on back-to-back errors to put MU up, 4-1.
MU added a run without the benefit of a hit in the fourth.Â
Gabe Bunn walked, advanced on a balk and took third on a wild pitch before scoring on an error to make it 5-1.
McIlhenney walked to open the sixth and eventually scored on an error and Maryniak followed with another sac fly to give the Cougars a 7-1 lead.
Rinda didn't allow a runner past second base after the first inning.
In game two, the Ducks scored an unearned run in the top of the first, but were held in check the rest of the way.
The Cougars tied it with a run in the bottom of the first and scored the game-winning run in the third.
McIlhenney walked to open the first and later scored on a ground out to tie the game.
McIlhenney hit solo homer off the rightfield foul pole to plate the winning run in the nightcap.
Maryniak threw six scoreless before
Matt Lanzendorfer came on to work two scoreless innings to get the save.
The Cougars will host DeSales in a MAC Freedom semifinal series, beginning Friday.
