MU Softball Splits at Lebanon Valley

The Misericordia University softball team split a doubleheader with a pair of one-run games at Lebanon Valley, Sunday.

Marissa Kelly threw a four-hitter to win the opener and Mackenzie Fizer had two hits.  Emma Griffin and Kaitlyn Slusser drove in runs in the 2-1 win.

In the nightcap, the Cougars scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 lead, but Leb Val rallied for two runs in the seventh for a 5-4 walk-off win.

Bridget Doherty had two hits and Nikki Elliott had a two-run double.

Down 1-0 in the opener, the Cougars tied the game in the top of the fourth.  Fizer led off with a single up the middle and later scored on Slusser's two-out, infield single.

Funesti singled to left to open the sixth and pinch-runner Edna Kiefer moved up on a throwing error and went to third on Emily Susanj's single to left.  Griffin followed with a sacrifice fly to center to drive in the winning run.

MU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third in game two.  Griffin lined a one-out single to center and moved up on a wild pitch before coming home on Gianna Russo's two-out single up the middle.

Down 3-1 after six innings, Griffin drew a lead-off walk to start the seventh and Doherty reached on an infield single.  After both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt, Elliott tied the game with a two-run double to left center.

Kaitlin Redling and stole second and Gianna Foreman reached on a fielder's choice to drive in the go-ahead run.

Lebanon Valley had three straight hits to open the bottom of the seventh to win the game.
