MU Women's Soccer Dominates Opener at Susquehanna

Emma Sweitzer's hat trick led the Misericordia University women's soccer team to an 8-0 win in their season opener, Friday night at Susquehanna.

Madison Brdaric had a goal and two assists and Esabella Mendola added a goal and an assist.

Haleigh Wintersteen, Sabrina Competiello and Alyssa Steenback all scored goals and Lily Heistand had two assists.

The Cougars defense limited the River Hawks to just one shot.

Mendola opened the scoring in the 12th minute and Sweitzer made it 2-0 just two minutes later.

Sweitzer and Wintersteen scored just over a minute apart to give MU a 4-0 lead at 24:50.

Brdaric scored in the opening minute of the second half and Sweitzer completed her hat trick in the 48th minute to make it 6-0.

Competiello scored at 53:35 and Steenback closed out the scoring in the 78th minute.

The Cougars took six shots in the first 11 minutes before Mendola and Sweitzer scored on consecutive shots for MU's first two goals.

Sweitzer and Wintersteen gave the Cougars a 4-0 lead midway through the first period and the score stood through the rest of the first half.

The Cougars dominated the play throughout the night and held a 25-1 advantage in shots while holding the River Hawks without a shot until the 86th minute.
