Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Cougars Improve to 4-0 With Win Over Shenandoah

The Misericordia University women's soccer team continued their winning streak and improved to 4-0 after defeating Shenandoah University, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at McGeehan Field.

Alyssa Steenback scored immediately following a free kick midway late in the first half to lift MU to victory. Haleigh Wintersteen assisted on the play.

The Cougar offense quickly generated a scoring chance as Lily Heistand put a shot on net that was turned aside by Shenandoah's goalkeeper exactly four minutes into the contest.

Misericordia found themselves in another opportunity to get on the board after being awarded a free kick just outside the Hornets' box. Wintersteen took the kick and fired a shot that rang off the crossbar and Steenback buried the loose ball into the open goal at 30:53.

Shenandoah threatened to level the score just five minutes later when a shot hit the crossbar and deflected out of play.

The Cougars had an offensive flurry 14 minutes into the second half when the Hornets' keeper left her net, but was beaten to a loose by Madison Brdaric.  Olivia Maniskas took a pass from Brdaric and fired a shot on goal, but was denied when the keeper recovered to make a diving save.

MU maintained possession and Maniskas lofted another shot just over the crossbar.

In the final minutes of regulation, Misericordia narrowly missed tacking on a second goal when Brdaric sent a blast from just inside the box that caromed off the top right corner of the frame.

The Cougars outshot Shenandoah 14-5 while goalkeeper Lauren Mondor made three saves to secure her fourth shutout of the season.
