The Misericordia University field hockey team won its sixth straight game as it opened its MAC Freedom schedule with a 3-2 win at DeSales, Saturday.
Madison Lasinski,
Ava Cirigliano and
Abigail O'Donnell all scored as the Cougars improved to 10-2.
The Cougars defense held off an early surge by DeSales as the Bulldogs took five of their nine shots on the day in a one-minute span midway through the first period.
MU countered two minutes later and Lasinski buried a penalty stroke to give Misericordia a 1-0 lead at 8:59.
Cirigliano made it 2-0 early in the second period off a penalty corner. She took the insert pass from outside the circle, juked a defender and blasted a shot from just inside the arc that deflected off the goalie's pads and into the cage at 21:20.
DeSales cut the lead in half early in the third quarter and O'Donnell answered five minutes into the final period.
Ashley Pitz collected a loose ball near midfield and threaded a pass to O'Donnell who split two defenders before lifting a shot that caromed off the goalie and inside the left post for a 3-1 lead at 50:04.
DeSales got within 3-2 at 57:25, but neither team managed a shot the rest of the way.
