The #16 nationally-ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team continued their perfect run the MAC Freedom with a 4-0 win over DeSales, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Ella Cipriani,
Samantha Bardonner,
MK Peters and
Julia Hayward all scored as the Cougars improved to 10-3-1 overall.
Cipriani gave the Cougars an early off a rebound of
Lily Heistand's shot at 5:25.
The Cougars doubled their lead with Bardonner's goal off a free kick from
Brenna Field at 36:15.
Misericordia made it 3-0 late in the first half when Peters bent a tough-angle shot from the left end line under the crossbar with just over two minutes remaining in the first half.
The Cougars closed the scoring on Hayward's goal in the 76
th minute with an assist from
Larissa Evans.
Misericordia struck as Heistand received a ball in stride in on the left side of the box, but her shot was denied on a diving save. Cipriani gathered the rebound stuffed it into the net seconds later, giving Misericordia the 1-0 lead.
Cipriani looked to make it 2-0 on a corner kick at 24:17, but was stopped by the goalkeeper.
With just under 10 minutes left in the first half, as Field curled the ball perfectly into the box on a resulting free kick and found Bardonner, who headed it into the net to double MU's lead.
The Cougars weren't done as Peters dribbled along the end line and lofted a ball over the keeper's head to make it 3-0.
Esabella Mendola had a good opportunity early in the second half, but her shot was saved by the keeper.
Misericordia continued to apply pressure and Heistand's shot rang off the post at 51:34 and Hayward's follow up shot went wide left.
Cipriani found
Alyssa Steenback in the box, the Bulldogs' keeper made a diving stop in the 73
rd minute.
Evans brilliantly passed the ball directly over the heads of the last DeSales defenders and Hayward received the ball and slipped it into the bottom right corner to create the 4-0 final score.
