MU Field Hockey Wins 10th Straight to Clinch Postseason Berth

The Misericordia University field hockey team won its 10th straight game with a 2-1 victory over Lebanon Valley, Saturday evening at Mangelsdorf Field.

The Cougars clinched a postseason berth heading into the final week of the regular season.

Madison Lasinski scored both goals for Misericordia in a three-minute span in the third quarter while Abigail O'Donnell notched an assist.

Neither team managed a great look at the cage throughout the first quarter as Lebanon Valley took a shot a minute in that Sarah Bogina swatted away and had another shot 12 minutes later which the Cougars defended as a team.

Much of the same continued in the second quarter as Misericordia was unable to get any great looks at the goal while holding the Flying Dutchmen to just two shots, including one that was saved by Bogina.

The Cougars came out attacking early in the second half with O'Donnell taking the first shot less than two minutes into the third quarter which was saved by the Lebanon Valley goalie.

MU kept up the attack, however, as Lasinski found herself isolated with the goalie on the right side of the cage and snuck it past for the Cougars goal and a 1-0 lead at 34:03.

Misericordia wasn't finished yet, as O'Donnell connected with Lasinski who again managed to find the back of the cage for her second goal of the night giving Misericordia a 2-0 lead just three minutes later.

Although the Cougars were able to find a few open looks during the rest of the third period, they were unable to connect.  The defense stayed strong as Bogina notched two more saves in the quarter.

Bogina remained active in the fourth quarter as she saved two of three shots in succession and got help on a defensive save from Delaney Miller.

The Flying Dutchmen would not be denied however, finally managing to force the ball through the defense and into the cage to make it a one score game four minutes into the quarter.

As the fourth quarter wound down the Flying Dutchmen found themselves with two more looks at the goal, but Bogina held strong swatting away both attempts.

Bogina ended the night with eight saves.
