The Misericordia University women's soccer team will face Rowan in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va.
Misericordia, the #16 team in the nation, is 15-4-1 and received an at-large bid to the national tournament after being upset in the MAC Freedom title match.
Rowan, 13-1-4, is ranked 11
th and also received an at-large bid after falling in PKs in the NJAC finals to Montclair.
This is the third-ever meeting between Misericordia and Rowan. MU defeated the Profs in the opening round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
Fourteenth-ranked Christopher Newport will host Penn State Harrisburg, Saturday at 4:30. The winners will meet Sunday at 6:00 for the right to advance to the Sweet 16.
Misericordia features a balanced attack with five players double digit points.
Senior midfielder
Olivia Maniskas (10g, 4a) has a team-high 24 points while
Caelan Gallagher (7g, 3a) and
Lily Heistand (7g, 3a) both have 17 points.
Esabella Mendola (6g, 3a) has 15 points and
Alyssa Steenback (4g, 2a) adds 10 points.
Two-time MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Year
Brenna Field anchors a back line that allows just .60 goals per game.
In net,
Lauren Mondor has a 0.66 goals against average with seven shutouts.
Rowan is led by Olivia Giordano (13g, 7a) who has a team-high 33 points. Sara Wiedeman (6g, 7a) and Bella Moore (8g, 2a) add 19 and 18 points, respectively.
Angela Oliveto (6g, 3a) has 15 points while Liana SanFelice has 14 points on two goals and a team-high 10 assists.
Leah Edinger has 0.46 goals against average in net with eight shutouts.
The Profs have allowed just eight goals while posting 12 shutouts.
