The Misericordia University men's basketball team pulled away down the stretch to beat Haverford, 79-66, Saturday afternoon.

Arvel Chandler led the Cougars with 24 points while
Nate Townsend and
Matt Prociak also scored in double figures.

Townsend had 13 points in 20 minutes an Prociak had 11 points and team-high eight rebounds.

Jack Gallagher had nine points and
Darryl Wright had a team-high four assists.

Nate Townsend put up the first two points of the game on a layup.

Tied 7-7, the Cougars went on an 8-2 run with Townsend,
Eli Stoute and
Will Anozie contributing.

The Fords evened it up at 17, but Gallagher and Chandler put MU up by five.

Haverford took the lead at 6:32, but the Cougars answered with a 12-5 run to end the half with a 35-31 lead.

Misericordia started the second half off strong with Stoute and Chandler scoring to put the Cougars up 12 with 17:49 to go.

Ryan Nasuti's three-pointer gave the Cougars a 10-point lead with 12:56 to play.

Haverford got within nine points, but Prociak's tip-in stretched MU's lead back to 56-45 with 9:24 to go.

The Fords cut the deficit to 56-51 with 7:51 remaining, but the Cougars converted at the free throw line the rest of the way to clinch the win.
